The Lam Vỹ Commune Youth Union and Women's Union (Định Hóa) recently organized the handover of the "Green House - Limiting Plastic Waste" model to the commune's secondary school. Accordingly, a garbage container is placed on the school grounds, and teachers and students collect scrap paper, plastic bottles, and nylon bags, then sort them for sale to raise funds to help students in difficult circumstances.

Ms. Triệu Kim Huệ, Secretary of the Lam Vỹ Commune Youth Union, stated: "Through this model, we want to build students' awareness and habits of environmental protection through the smallest actions, such as collecting and properly disposing of waste, and limiting the use of plastic waste."

It is known that 10 out of 10 hamlet women's chapters in Lam Vỹ commune are also implementing plastic waste reduction by collecting and sorting garbage at the communal house; using plastic baskets for shopping; exchanging garbage for green plants…

Across the province, the Provincial Women's Union has launched the anti-plastic waste movement since 2018. Thousands of good models and effective methods have been implemented, attracting a large number of female members to participate, such as: women going to the market with baskets; economical garbage bags; civilized garbage bins; rivers without garbage; eco-bricks from plastic waste; women saying no to single-use plastic products...

The Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union has also implemented the market without nylon bags model in Phổ Yên City. At the same time, it has intensified propaganda activities on waste sorting, collecting plastic waste for recycling, and encouraging people to use alternative products for single-use plastic items in their daily habits.

Reducing plastic waste starts with individual awareness

Gradually changing awareness and habits has helped significantly reduce plastic waste step by step. Currently, most agencies and units in the province have replaced the use of disposable plastic bottles with glass bottles, metal bottles; using television screens, projectors, and fabric backdrops instead of plastic banner backdrops at conferences and events. Supermarkets and shops are using biodegradable bags and paper bags to replace nylon bags… These small actions of each person will bring great effectiveness, helping to protect the environment and make life greener.
