Training human resources in Semiconductor Technology industry: Awakening potential of high-quality human resources
To realize this policy, and at the same time meet the goal of attracting foreign investment to develop industry and train high-quality human resources to serve the electronics and semiconductor industry in industrial parks of Thai Nguyen province, the University of Science has focused on completing the Project to open training and research majors right from the beginning of the year, promptly meeting enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Van Hung - Director of Thai Nguyen University: Human resources in the field of Microchip and Semiconductor Technology in the next 5 years will need about 20,000 people and in the next 10 years will need about 50,000 people with university degrees or higher. This is a great opportunity for the Electronics, Microchip and Semiconductor Technology industry. TNU also identified focusing on training human resources for the Electronics, Microchip and Semiconductor Technology industry in universities and colleges under TNU as an important task.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Chien, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Physics, shared that Vietnam currently ranks 9th globally in exporting electronic products. Still, the current human resources only meet 20% of the demand. The training demand in the next few years is about 3,000 people/year, of which the number of postgraduates accounts for at least 30%. Therefore, it is necessary to quickly train human resources to exploit the potential of this field’s high-quality human resource market. In particular, investors from the US and China have been promoting investment in Vietnam in general and Thai Nguyen in particular, so a huge human resource is needed. According to the assessment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Tung (University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), from the training program design framework of the University of Science: Upon graduation, students will have a solid grasp of basic and in-depth knowledge of microchip design techniques for application; have the skills to design, realize and evaluate systems and solutions in the IC design industry. Students equipped with foreign languages will certainly become experts of large electronics and semiconductor corporations.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, senior expert of Vina Solar Technology LLC said: Every year, the Company needs 200-300 engineers in designing, and packaging of ICs and semiconductors to work in industrial parks at home and abroad. However, there is currently a shortage of human resources. The Company is willing to sign contracts with interns from universities, so that the schools can train close to the actual production process, also creating an annual recruitment source or training on demand.
It can be said that the potential for training and research in the field of IC and semiconductor design technology is very large. The University of Science (under TNU) is at the forefront of the human resource trend in the Semiconductor Technology industry, based on the advantages of modern facilities and international cooperation that have been implemented, and will become one of the pioneers in training high-quality human resources, contributing to the "billion-dollar" industry right in Thai Nguyen.
