Cam Gia peach blossom craft village, Cam Gia ward (Thai Nguyen City), was recognized in 2012 and currently has 119 members with a peach growing area of about 100 hectares. According to statistics, by the end of 2023, the craft village had about 30,000 peach trees of all kinds, with a total revenue of over 30 billion VND. On the occasion of Lunar New Year, many people visit and take pictures. However, peach growers here have not paid attention to exploiting the potential of craft village tourism.

Mr. Truong Van Dang, Vice Chairman of Cam Gia Peach Blossom Village Association, shared: “We have had the orientation to develop the craft village associated with experiential tourism for many years but have not been able to do so. The reason is that the craft village still faces certain difficulties such as: Poor environmental sanitation; the transportation system is not convenient; there is no land fund for growing peach trees specifically for tourism; human resources for tourism development are limited in terms of skills and expertise…”

The change from craft villages into eco-tourism and agricultural tourism destinations is being implemented in many places across the country and has brought about practical results. Not only exploiting strengths and potentials but also contributing to increasing income for people, as well as preserving and developing craft villages. Therefore, the provincial authorities have had many solutions to support craft villages and people to develop this model. In particular, the Thai Nguyen Rural Development Department has increased training and propaganda classes, improving the capacity of managing and developing tourism for people in craft villages in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, Deputy Head of the Thai Nguyen Rural Development Department, shared: “The subjects of tourism activities are rural people, therefore, we have opened propaganda classes for craft village people on developing traditional craft villages in association with protecting the ecological environment; some skills and expertise on community tourism, agriculture, building new rural areas; tourism promotion, advertising and development... These are important contents to help people have skills and knowledge to develop tourism”.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the Department has coordinated functional agencies to organize 6 classes for nearly 500 trainees who are managers and members in craft villages in the province.
