According to Thai Nguyen Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the scope and boundaries of Thai Nguyen province planning include the entire Thai Nguyen province with a total natural area of 352,196 hectares, including 9 administrative units: 3 cities (Thai Nguyen, Song Cong, Pho Yen) and 6 districts (Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, Phu Luong, Dong Hy, Dai Tu, Phu Binh). The overall goal of the Plan is to promote all potentials, advantages, and resources to bring Thai Nguyen to develop quickly, comprehensively, and sustainably; build Thai Nguyen province to be peaceful, happy, prosperous and friendly, becoming one of the developed provinces in the North.

By 2025, Thai Nguyen province will be one of the modern, smart industrial economic centers of the Northern Midlands and Mountains and Hanoi Capital region.

In 2030, Thai Nguyen province will become one of the centers of high-level electrical, electronic, and mechanical manufacturing production; Center for education and training of high quality human resources, research and application of high technology.
