According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Vietnam is one of the countries severely affected by natural disasters and climate change. The Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Vietnam project (CLIDEV Project) is implemented in the period 2020-2024, with the important goal of improving the quality of teaching on climate change in universities. The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland; Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, LAUREA University (Finland), Hue University, Tay Nguyen University, and Vietnam Forestry University.

Through the project, many activities have been organized such as: Workshops, training courses, communication campaigns to provide useful and updated information for teaching and learning of lecturers and students at universities; support for upgrading equipment for teaching and research related to climate change. After 4 years of implementation, the CLIDEV Project has contributed to improving the teaching capacity of lecturers and researchers to improve the effectiveness of responding to climate change. Thereby, contributing to promoting sustainable development in Vietnam.

Ms. Riikka Seppala, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam, affirmed: The project is a global cooperation, contributing to sustainable development. Thereby, it helps universities innovate their programs and teaching methods to change the awareness and capacity of lecturers and students about climate change; helping each individual and organization to actively participate in environmental protection activities and apply the knowledge learned into practice.
