Increasing the content of science and technology in agricultural production
Van Han is one of the communes with the largest tea growing area in Dong Hy district. With the goal of gradually shifting from traditional farming to applying science and technology in production to increase productivity and economic value of tea trees, the commune has coordinated with the Department of Agriculture to deploy models of applying science and technology in tea production.
Mr. Luong Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of Van Han Commune People's Committee, said: The abuse of fertilizers and chemical pesticides causes the soil to become hard, changes nutrients, causes soil degradation, and reduces tea productivity. Therefore, in order to change this habit of the people, in recent years we have coordinated with the functional departments of the district and province to implement tea growing models according to VietGAP, organic standards and plant health management models on tea trees. Up to now, Van Han commune has 175/1,000 hectares of tea produced according to VietGAP, organic standards and the area of tea according to these standards is increasing as people realize the effectiveness it brings. Ms. Duong Thi Thanh, in Hoa Khe 1 hamlet, said: After participating in a training course on plant health management models on tea trees (April 2024), I applied it to production on 0,108 hecta of tea of my family. After a period of application, the productivity increased compared to traditional farming methods by about 10kg of fresh tea buds/360m2, and the cost of fertilizer was reduced by more than 100,000 VND/360m2/harvest; the price of each kg of fresh tea was also 5-10,000 VND higher due to organic production.
Along with the implementation of the tea growing model according to VietGAP and organic standards in Van Han commune, from 2021 to now, the provincial Department of Agriculture has implemented 368 models to support production development and application of science and technology in agriculture, including 218 demonstration models, transferring scientific and technological advances; 40 models supporting production linked to the value chain; 10 models supporting mechanization development, collective economic development; the rest are models supporting safe production, according to VietGAP standards in cultivation and animal husbandry. In which, some typical models include: tea production model according to organic standards on an area of 65 hectares; model of applying science and technology to produce spread-out custard apples with 3 hectares in Vo Nhai district; 60 models applying biological bedding to treat the environment in animal husbandry; model of granting sustainable forest management certificates on an area of 3,745 hectares of forest...
In reality, the application of science and technology in agricultural production has brought about many benefits such as: helping to save costs; reduce prices and improve the quality of agricultural products; protect the environment; meet market demand for agricultural product quality... Mr. Trieu Van Cuong, Head of the Provincial Department of Rural Development, said: Determining that promoting the application of science and technology in agricultural production is an important factor towards sustainable agricultural production, therefore, we will coordinate with relevant units and local authorities to continue implementing models of transferring science and technology to people. In particular, focusing on promoting propaganda to raise people's awareness of science and technology; strengthening training so that each person can master science and technology when applying it to production; encouraging and creating conditions to provide maximum support for households, cooperatives, and cooperative groups when implementing the application of science and technology...
