The area of “nep vai” sticky rice in the whole district is now not only concentrated in 3 communes: On Luong, Phu Ly, Hop Thanh but also expanded to neighboring localities such as Yen Trach, Yen Do, Dong Dat, and Du town, with an area of up to over 200ha.

From 2021 to the present, the People's Committee of Phu Luong district has actively directed specialized agencies to promote and guide people in expanding the cultivated area and applying scientific and technical advances to “nep vai” sticky rice production.

Ms. Hoang Thi Hong Tu, Director of On Luong Vai Sticky Rice Agricultural Cooperative, said: "With production according to VietGAP standards and organic direction, currently, the “nep vai” sticky rice products of the cooperative are sold out as soon as they are produced. On average, each year, we sell 20 tons of “nep vai” sticky rice to the market, with an average selling price of 45,000-60,000 VND/kg. At the beginning of 2025, this product of the cooperative was recognized as a 4-star OCOP product."

Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung, Deputy Head of the Phu Luong District Department of Agriculture and Environment, assessed: "The farming models are produced according to VietGAP standards, using organic microbial fertilizers and biological products for rice care. As a result, input costs are significantly reduced, product quality is constantly improved, and the ecological environment is protected. In particular, the formation of linkages in production and consumption has helped people feel secure in investing in production, increasing the added value of “nep vai” sticky rice."

In the Project on developing and enhancing the value of key products in the 2021-2025 period, with an orientation towards 2030, Phu Luong district identifies “nep vai” sticky rice as a key agricultural product after tea. Every year, the locality allocates funds to support cooperatives and cooperative groups producing “nep vai” sticky rice with varieties, organic microbial fertilizers, technical training, VietGAP certification, support for rice dryers, cốm making machines, stamps, labels, packaging...

Phu Luong “nep vai” sticky rice is not only an agricultural specialty but also a cultural essence and a source of pride for the people.

Thanks to this, the average annual output of “nep vai” sticky rice in the district reaches over 1,000 tons, the selling price of rice reaches over 40,000 VND/kg (an increase of 10,000 VND/kg compared to 2021), contributing to increasing the income of rice farmers. Phu Luong “nep vai” sticky rice has been granted a certification mark by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology). Currently, there are 2 products from “nep vai” sticky rice in the district that have achieved 3 and 4-star OCOP standards. Phu Luong “nep vai” sticky rice is not only an agricultural specialty but also a cultural essence and a source of pride for the people. With a methodical approach, the determination of the authorities, and the consensus of the people, “nep vai” sticky rice is gradually asserting its position in the market, contributing to enriching Phu Luong homeland and preserving the cultural identity of Vietnamese agriculture.
