Meeting to celebrate the 39th anniversary of Song Cong City
39 years ago, Song Cong Town was established under Decision No. 113/QD-HDBT dated April 11, 1985, of the Council of Ministers (now the Government) based on Mo Che town, Cai Dan, Tan Quang and Ba Xuyen communes. After 4 times of adjusting administrative boundaries, Song Cong City currently has 7 wards and 3 communes with a total natural area of 97.35 km2 and a population of over 100,000 people.

In 2010, Song Cong town was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as a class 3 urban area; In 2015, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a resolution to upgrade Song Cong town to become a city; In 2024, it was recognized by the Prime Minister as a class II urban area under Thai Nguyen province.
