"American Hangout": An Attractive Destination for Students
The establishment and maintenance of the "American Hangout" at TNU further affirms the friendship and desire to strengthen cooperation between TNU and Thai Nguyen province in several fields, especially education, culture, and health, with the immediate focus being on training high-quality human resources.
The "American Hangout" at TNU is one of five American Hangouts in Vietnam. These "American Hangouts" are part of a network of over 600 "American Hangouts" worldwide, aiming to build bridges, enhance mutual understanding, and serve as learning centers for students and common spaces for those interested in the United States and its culture and values.
After nearly four years of operation, the "American Hangout" at TNU has attracted more than 12,000 staff, lecturers, students, and readers to visit, study, and research.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Nhuan Kien, Director of the Digital Center: The "American Hangout" at TNU is an attractive destination for TNU staff, lecturers, students, and the local community, with many activities that have been and are being implemented to serve the community, such as: Teaching courses on robot control programming using the STEM education method; training in advanced information skills; entrepreneurship skills; training in E-Sports; specialized English for Medicine and Pharmacy; supporting the promotion of STEM education in high schools; teaching career-oriented English with a STEM focus...
Student Ha Thi Tuyet Mai, Faculty of International Studies (TNU), said: I really want to explore the United States, but I haven't had the opportunity to go there yet. When senior students introduced me to the "American Hangout" at TNU, I came here to explore and was surprised: Right here in Thai Nguyen, there is an awe-inspiring space about the United States with full information, data, and modern equipment. This information is very useful for me in my studies; at the same time, it helps me understand more about scholarship opportunities at American universities.
In the years 2024-2025, the "American Hangout" at TNU will continue to implement many activities such as: Capacity-building training for ethnic minority students in the fields of mental health care, reproductive and sexual health, enhancing aesthetic capacity, photography skills, teamwork skills…; implementing STEM courses. In the coming time, the "American Hangout" at TNU will continue to contribute to affirming TNU as a reliable and sustainable partner of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission, improving the quality of human resources, and developing the socio-economic situation in the locality and region through useful activities, focusing on: English language teaching, entrepreneurship, STEM education, skills training, capacity building... for the community.
